“The Way Things Used To Be” series of four photographs ©2003
Work created during Kamiyama Aritist in Residence, Japan - digital photographic prints - 112cm x 122cm (44" X 48")

Each photographic work represent archetypal narratives in Asian landscape painting in which old and/or young are immersed in nature and forever contemplative of life. The residents participated in exercises of reenacting particular scenes, confronting their own cultural history with modern societal realities. The residents were carefully chosen (considerations included: occupation, age, status and personality) to reflect the spirit of the original paintings. While this is not readily seen in the photographs, the experiential aspects of participation and the process of the residents were central to the concept of this project. Part of the collection at the Kamiyama Museum of Art.
